FAQ’s about Dinner For Eight:
What is Dinner for Eight?
Dinner for Eight is a great way to meet folks from church that you may not already know. It’s also a good way to get to know your church family better. You get together, share a meal and conversation. It is not a Gourmet Group where you rotate hosting and organizing meals. The emphasis is on fun and fellowship, so you don’t have to be a gourmet cook to participate.
How does a Dinner for Eight Group work?
The first step is to have hosts sign up. Once we have gathered all the hosts and have the dates and number of people they can host, we have guests sign up. We will use the registration form on NPC’s Shelby platform. Guests will see where and when groups will be meeting and sign up directly using Shelby. There will be a place to let the hosts know if there is a food allergy or issue.
Are the dinners all on one night?
No. The hosts will determine a date and time that suits them. Guests will then see the available dates, locations and see what works for them and sign up.
How do I host a group?
To host, you would let Glen Braden know of your interest. He will need to know 1- where you will host, 2- when you will host (date and time), 3- how many people you can host (it can be smaller if you do not have the space to host, but also we recommend not more than 8 adults. If you have children that will be present, consider hosting families with kids, just let us know the maximum number of adults and kids you can host), 4- if you want a special group to come (seniors, singles, parents with kids, special meals like vegetarian or gluten free, etc.). 5- Determine what type of dinner you will host. (Hosts can provide the whole meal, or it can be potluck, or you can order take away together – it is up to you as the host). After the signups happen, I will let you know who is signed up for your dinner and how to contact them, to reconfirm, give them your address (the sign up form will only list the town you are in) and any directions or instructions you may have.
What happens after our gathering?
That is up to you as a group. There is no commitment to continuing with a group after the original Dinner for Eight. If you choose to meet again or form a small group, that is wonderful. Some people feel the draw of fellowship and want to continue to deepen what you have already started. Glen can provide guidance, training and materials to start up Connect Groups. But again, there are no strings attached by hosting a Dinner for Eight.
